He worked 37 years for Nationwide Insurance before retiring at age 62 to enjoy life while in good health.  He enjoyed boating, riding four-wheelers, gardening, skeet shooting, and golf.   He was considered by family, friends, and neighbors to be the consummate “organizer” of hospitality, entertainment, and social activities, as he had such a love for people.

He was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher at West Hickory Baptist Church where his father was pastor for many years.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC.
