ROCK HILL – Mr. David Javan “Chart” Waters, 86, went home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Chapel with Mr. Scott Russell and Mr. Don Gillespie officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Waters was a son of the late Javan Curtis Waters and the late Ellen Beckham Waters Warmoth. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Miriam Carpenter Waters; his brother, Cy Waters; and his sister, Carolyn Comer.
Mr. Waters graduated from Rock Hill High School and York Technical College. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War in Japan, worked for more than 40 years at Bowater as a millwright, and was an officer in the United Paper Workers International Union.
Mr. Waters committed his life to Christ as a teenager and was a founding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served in many capacities. He was a devoted, generous, and deeply loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, and a friend to all he met. His favorite pastime was doing things for others and he was known for his sweet, simple typewritten notes. He loved sports and was a lifelong Gamecock fan.
The family would like to thank his wonderful church friends and his special caregivers at Harbor Chase.
David leaves a wonderful legacy of love to his sons, David Scott Waters (April) and Michael Waters (Erin); his daughter, Lori Waters Grem (Marty); his grandchildren, Elise Grem and Casey Grem; his special nephew, Jay Waters (Dana); his niece, Joan Parish (Randy); and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
