Rock Hill – David Russell “Dave” Kegley, 91, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018, at Park Pointe Village in Rock Hill, SC.

Memorial service for Mr. Kegley will be Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 1:30 pm in the Community Room at Park Pointe Village, 3025 Chesbrough Boulevard, Rock Hill, SC with Rev. Randy Wright officiating. Visitation with the family will follow.

“Dave” as he was known by his family and friends, was born on August 19, 1926 in Bluefield, West Virginia to the late Frederick Abram Kegley and the late Mattie Lemons Kegley. Dave proudly served his country as a member of the Army’s 11th Airborne Division at the end of WWII. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after a career that spanned nearly fifty years, serving as Telegraph Operator then Train Dispatcher in Roanoke, Virginia, and as Agent Yardmaster in Bristol, Virginia.

Dave’s dedication to community service began as an Eagle Scout and continued throughout his life, frequently volunteering with programs such as the American Red Cross and Habitat For Humanity. He was also active in the Lions Club Vision Program, including a term as district governor. Dave was a life-long learner who enjoyed several pastimes, especially amateur radio. Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and a man of abiding faith. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Rock Hill.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Roberta W. “Bobbie” Kegley of Rock Hill, sons, Russ Kegley and wife Betty of Greensboro, NC, Rob Kegley and wife Dee of Rural Hall, NC; daughter, Ginny Barnes and husband Dan of Rock Hill; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; nieces, Nancy Zehmer of Lynchburg, VA and Joan Cameron of Little River, SC. Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Robertson Kegley in 1983, a brother, Alton Kegley, and two sisters, Beatrice Clark and Pauline Repass.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mr. Kegley’s memory to the American Red Cross, 200 Piedmont Boulevard, Rock Hill, SC 29732 (Upper Palmetto Chapter), Habitat For Humanity, (, Wycliffe Global Alliance, (, or local Food Banks.
