Rock Hill, SC – Mrs. Edna Gaulden King Davis, our beautiful mother, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2019, while surrounded by her family.

Edna was a native of Rock Hill, SC, born August 8, 1923 to William Brown Gaulden and Celia Jane McSwain Gaulden, who both preceded her in death.  In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husbands, Frel King and Thomas Davis; her four brothers and three sisters, Jack Gaulden (Charlotte), Jimmy Gaulden, Robert Gaulden (Georgia), Rufus Gaulden, Mary G. Passmore (Vernon), Martha G. Blackburn Moore (Roy Blackburn)(Charlie Moore) and Judy G. Smith (Joe); her sister-in-law, Laurel Gaulden; her niece, Janet Gaulden Van Tatenhove; and her nephew, Steve Blackburn.

Edna was a faithful Christian and an active member of Friendship United Methodist Church.  Her faith was strong and devout which is evident within the lives of her children and her children’s children.  She worked hard to provide for her family financially, spiritually and emotionally.  She excelled as the Manager of Food Services at York Technical College and cherished her time there.  She found joy in volunteering at hospice.  In her free time she enjoyed gardening, cooking and playing with her boston terrier, Jack.

Edna is survived by her brother, Melvin Gaulden; her sons, Marion King (Sharon) and Don King; her daughter, Brenda King Chapman (Bruce); her two sisters-in-law, Patsy Gaulden and Nora Mae Gaulden.  She’s the proud “Mamaw” to her eleven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her 28 nieces and nephews who always viewed her as “fun Aunt Edna” and cheristhed her laughs and stories.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Friendship United Methodist Church with her nephews, Bobby and Brown Gaulden officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 pm on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Davis’ name to Friendship United Methodist Church, 1200 Neely Store Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to Providence Care Hospice, 1736 Old York Rd, York, SC 29745.
