Rock Hill – Luria V. Passmore Coggins Canupp, 100, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, August 1, 2018.
Services for Mrs. Canupp will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 3, 2018 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC with Rev. Mike Varnadore officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park 230 South Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm till time of the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Canupp was born February 5,1918 to the late William Joshaway Passmore and Docia Traham Passmore in Franklin, NC. She was married to the late Vernon Coggins for 43 years until his demise and then to Robert Canupp until the good Lord called him home. Luria, also known to many as grandmother, was a God fearing and dedicated Christian to her Lord and Savior. When her eyesight was good she read her bible every day and when they started to fail her, she started listening to her bible on her tape cassettes faithfully. She was a member of the Leslie Church of God. Luria worked for Rock Hill Printing and Finishing, Dave Behr Hosiery Co. and later became a nurse’s assistance at the York General Hospital. She was an excellent seamstress from the age of 20, and tailor made many outfits through the years. Having sewn for many people in and around Leslie and Rock Hill community’s. Luria is especially known for her hand quilting and sewing which is a rare talent.
Luria was a dedicated mother to her three surviving children that all live within a couple miles and closer to her home, Charles E. Coggins, Gurtha Coggins Stiwinter, and Joseph L. Coggins (Diane) her grandchildren whom she adored, Darrell Stiwinter (Susie), Kay Boggs (David), Eddie Coggins, Tim Coggins (Robin), Amy Morton (Kevin), Stacy Myers, all of Rock Hill and Gwen Brown from, Louisville, KY; Six great-grandchildren, Drew Stiwinter (Kat) of Duncan, SC, Brandon Coggins, Timmy Coggins, Rylee Morton all of Rock Hill, Ethan and Piper Ackerman of Louisville, KY. Luria was preceded in death by her daughter, Gladys Coggins, her daughter-in-law, Jane Price Coggins, her granddaughter, Michele Coggins Thomasson and nine siblings, her being the last of ten children.
Her daughter Gurtha has been her dedicated care giver for the past 15 years. She also wanted to thank everyone that has ever shown her kindness and has ever helped her in any way. She wanted you to know that God will bless you many times over. She was our precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, friend, neighbor and she was our “Rock”.
