Pearl Ruth Schroedel (nee Lieber), died peacefully at home on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the age of 88.
Pearl is survived by her husband, Joseph, of 67 years, children, Joseph, Brenda, and Kimberley (Wayne), six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters and countless family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Lena Lieber of Scranton, Pennsylvania, as well as three brothers.
Pearl was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on May 12, 1930. She met the love of her life, Joseph, while walking past the gas station where he was working at the time. It was love at first sight for a young Jewish girl and an Irish-German Catholic boy. Despite the religious obstacles of that time, they married in 1951 following her conversion to the Catholic faith.
Being a devoted military wife for 30 years, Pearl supported her husband and family by making a home wherever Joe was stationed and kept the home fires burning whenever he had a remote assignment. Pearl was a world traveler and an accomplished cook. She showed her depth of love by preparing favorite meals for each member of the family. She was well known for her pepperoni rolls which have been sent by mail, carried on airplanes, and enjoyed by many. She is remembered by her family as the keeper of memories, a vibrant storyteller with an innate ability to have never met a stranger. She showered her family and friends with love, having open arms and heart, always ready for a hug, always enjoying life to the fullest. She was a dedicated volunteer with a passion for a charitable giving throughout her life, having been an active member of St. Anne Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 11:30 am at St. Anne Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. All are welcome to attend in celebration of Pearl’s life. The family will receive friends following the service in the church narthex. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The St. Anne Conference of The Society of St. Vincent DePaul, St. Anne Catholic Church, 1694 Bird Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730. The family would like to thank all for the prayers and support offered throughout Pearl’s illness, as well as the wonderful care provided by her hospice team from Hospice & Community Care.
