Rock Hill – Shirley Montgomery Blackmon passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at her home. She was born in Rock Hill, SC on May 9, 1937 to the late John and Bonnie Small Montgomery. She was the youngest of seven children— Paul Montgomery, Maude Montgomery Alexander, John Montgomery Jr., James Montgomery, and Edna Montgomery Williams, all who preceded her in death and a surviving sister, Peggy Montgomery Sisk of Perry, Florida. She was married to her high school sweetheart, the late Kenneth O. Blackmon for 55 years.
A graveside service will be held at Grandview Memorial Park-Cherry Road on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 10 am with Reverend Barry Yates and Richard Shaw officiating.
Shirley loved her family and spending time with her only son, Kenneth Michael Blackmon and wife, Allison; three grandchildren, Chase Blackmon and wife, Monika, Chapman Howell, Maci Howell and three great-granddaughters, Ava Jane, Evie Reese and Layla Michael Howell.
Shirley professed her life to Christ at a young age. She was a lifetime member of West End Baptist Church, where for the past 40+ years taught her “Kids” in Sunday school. She loved being able to share God’s word with them and cherished these “Kids” and their families.
Shirley retired from Oakdale Elementary School where she was a Kindergarten Teacher’s Aide. She always enjoyed helping and praying for others. She was dedicated to making a difference in other lives. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother and friend.
