ROCK HILL – Mr. Richard Stanley Powell, 83, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House.
A graveside service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road and a memorial service will follow at 11am at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born in Ware Shoals, Mr. Powell was the son of the late Clovis S. Powell and the late Grace Davis Powell. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Oates.
Mr. Powell graduated from Rock Hill High School and earned his BS and MS in Textile Chemistry from Clemson University. He was a US Army veteran and spent all of his working career in the chemical and dye industry, retiring from Sunbelt Corporation with 12 years of service. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, past Palmetto Chairman of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, member of the Rock Hill Industrial Park Corporation, past Chairman of the Rock Hill Area Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Rock Hill Country Club and member of the Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, fishing, music, spending time with his grandchildren and was an avid Clemson fan. He was also a member of Oakland Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Nancy S. Powell; his daughters, Nancy Powell Busovne (Philip) of Carolina Beach, NC and Rebecca Powell Cox (Matthew) of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Kristen Wyatt, Taylor and Cameron Cox.
