Rock Hill, SC – Mrs. Virginia Hegwood Burrell, 91, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at White Oak Manor of Rock Hill.
Mrs. Burrell was born in Chester, SC on October 13, 1926 and the daughter of the late William Lawrence Hegwood, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Yarborough Hegwood. She was a graduate of Winthrop Training School, attended Winthrop College and Kings Business College in Charlotte, NC. She was retired from White Oak Manor as Personnel Director for 23 years.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Rock Hill where she taught Sunday School and Training Union, played the piano, and was a member of the Senior Adult Choir. After retirement, she was an active member of the JOY Choir and the women’s missionary union. She was previously a member of the Catawba Chapter, 131 Eastern Star and Jerusalem Chapter, White Shrine of Charlotte, NC.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burrell was preceded in death by her husband, Captain Lawrence Donald Burrell of the Rock Hill Police Department on October 27, 1973.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road with Reverend Jamie Burdette officiating. Inurnment will be prior to the service at 2:15 PM, Sunday at Laurelwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Burrell is survived by her daughters, Donna Terry Saverance and husband, Denny and Mary Anne Marine and husband, Kurt; her grandchildren, Constance Saverance Howle and husband, Marty and Rachel Anne Kelley, all of Rock Hill; and her great-granddaughter, Lillian Martha Howle.
