Mark Douglas Ray, 65, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, in his hometown. He was born on March 26, 1960, and remained deeply rooted in the place and people he loved throughout his life.
Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and though he now joins his father and mother, GC and Margie Ray, and younger sister, Lynn, he is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Ray; his children, Garrett and Lyndsay Ray; and his cherished granddaughter, Victoria. He is also survived by two older brothers and four older sisters.
For 37 years, Mark worked as a dedicated Printing Press Operator at the same company — a rare testament to his work ethic, loyalty, and quiet perseverance. Though he worked hard to provide for his family, Mark was always present when he was home — filling the house with laughter, warmth, and a steady sense of care. He had a gift for decorating and design, and took joy in transforming his house into a home, especially during the holidays.
Mark had a deep and abiding faith and lived as a gentle and sweet man of God. He possessed a quiet, goofy sense of humor that had a way of catching people off guard — in the best way. Whether quoting Tyler Perry’s Madea with his signature “Hellur” and “Hallelujer!” or just sharing a warm laugh, Mark knew how to bring joy into the room.
He was passionate about singing, tending to his outdoor plants, and finding beauty in the everyday. Above all, Mark will be remembered as a man who loved his family fiercely, honored his faith deeply, and brought light and laughter into the lives of those around him.
A Celebration of Life memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 27 at 3:00pm at Lakewood Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors prior of service from 2:00pm – 2:45pm.
