Rock Hill, SC – Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” Anne Hoffman Simpson, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25, 2025.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 11:00 am at Mount Holly Methodist Church, 1996 Mount Holly Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730 with Reverend Wayne Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:15-10:45 am in the church sanctuary.

A native of Rock Hill, SC, Betty was the daughter of the late Tollie Monroe Hoffman and the late Margaret Eloise Polk Hoffman. She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School Class of 1954 and attended Winthrop College for two years. She retired from Institutional Research at Winthrop University after 34 years of service. Betty was a lifelong member of Mount Holly Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, served on numerous committees, was involved in Women’s groups, and was a Girl Scout leader. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading her Bible and participating in Bible study groups. She also enjoyed cooking and doing things for others.  Betty loved so many people and was loved by so many, as well.  She was the widow of William Brown Simpson, Sr. to whom she was married 53 years.

Betty is survived by her son, Brown Simpson Jr. and his wife, Kim; her daughter, Leah Simpson Mercer; her brother, Richard “Dickie” Hoffman (Susan); and four grandchildren, Allison Hannah Simpson, Margaret Simpson (Quentin Lane), Gracen Mercer and Katie Ann Mercer; her niece, Regina Hoffman Varnadore (Dean) and their daughter, Emily Taylor Martin (Andy); her sister-in-law, Patricia S. Springsteen and her niece and nephews, Julie Johnson (Jimmy); Hank Lane (Kara); and Michael Springsteen (Laura); and her special friend of 50+ years, Melissa Granacher.

The family would like to express their appreciation to all those who had been praying for Betty, as well as, Kempton of Rock Hill for their exceptional care over the past four months.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betty’s name to Mount Holly Methodist Church, 1996 Mount Holly Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
