Roy Ernest Hodge Jr., age 73, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded
by his children on February 3rd, 2026.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr., Greenville, SC 29609.
He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather. Roy was a widower whose
life was defined by service to his family, his profession, and his community. He leaves
behind a legacy of compassion, leadership, and dedication.
Roy earned a Masters in Health Administration from The Medical University of
South Carolina in 1993, a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of
South Carolina in 1981, and an Associate’s in Health Science/Respiratory Therapy from
Greenville Technical College in 1975.
Roy had a distinguished forty-one-year career in Respiratory Care, serving
patients across adult, pediatric, and his passion in neonatal care. He spent twenty years
as a staff Respiratory Therapist and twenty-one years in departmental management.
With more than a decade of upper-level management experience, he developed a
detailed understanding of hospital administration and operations, successfully
overseeing multiple departmental budgets while fostering collaboration across
healthcare teams.
He was highly respected for his professionalism, strong communication skills,
and ability to build lasting relationships. Roy served as a trusted liaison between
hospital administration, physicians, departments, governing boards, state agencies, and
the patients they served. Beyond his professional career, Roy was actively involved in
his community. He served as an event coordinator and fundraiser for the York County
GOP, supporting the Fay Bergman Charitable Organization, where he generously gave
his time and talents to causes he believed in.
He is survived by his siblings Frank, Pam, and Danny. His children, Kristina,
Elizabeth, Timothy, and Patrick (Jubi), and his beloved grandchildren, Melanie, Lydia,
Remy, Everett, Declan, and Margaret. Roy was preceded in death by Roy and Opal
Hodge.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to healing others,
commitment to his community, and deep love for his family. His impact will continue to
be felt by all who knew him.
