Patricia “Pat” Blaney Bright, born December 15, 1947, in Plainfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026. She was 79.
Pat was the daughter of Arthur and Betsy Blaney. She grew up with older sisters Mary Andresen and Eileen Keefe, and her twin sister Kathy.
She graduated from St. Angela Academy in Aiken, South Carolina. Following graduation, she entered the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy (based in Charleston, South Carolina), where she began her religious life and commitment to service.
Pat pursued higher education, earning her undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, and her Master’s degree in Theology from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Her early professional work included campus ministry at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she served alongside Father David Valtierra of the Oratory. During this period, she discerned a change in her path, left her religious community, and later married Dannie Wade Bright in December 1982.
After her time in campus ministry, Pat worked as a Grief Counselor at Hospice and Community Care for five years, providing compassionate support to those experiencing loss. She then dedicated many years to St. Anne School (now St. Anne Catholic School) in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she served as Assistant Principal and taught Art and Religion until her retirement. Her passion for education and nurturing young minds left a lasting impact on students, colleagues, and the school community.
Pat was a talented watercolor artist whose beautiful works grace many homes throughout Rock Hill, reflecting her creative spirit and love of beauty.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Betsy Blaney; her sisters Eileen Keefe, and Kathy (twin); and her beloved husband, Dannie W. Bright (who passed in January 2022.)
Pat is survived by her sister, Mary Andresen; four nieces, two brothers-in-law, and Dannie’s sister, Jil Coffman; her step-daughter, Sarah Bright Sullivan, and extended family and friends who cherished her warmth, faith, and artistic gifts.
