Stephen Thaddeus Hairston was born May 15, 1947, to the late John and Myrtle Hairston.

During his schooling he was above his class in mathematics. Stephen (Steve) was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19) of Chester, SC . Stephen also was a Home Health Aid for Mountaineer Home Nursing and had a trade as a carpenter.

Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather and minister. His life was a living testimony and was a shining light on his entire family, and the memories of his life will be cherished forever.

Steve and Nerissa was married on April 8, 2013 tying the knot bring the joy that they brought to each other and the love that was felt no matter what they were going through they made sure each other was set up and never without.

He will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife Nerissa L. Hairston, daughter Desirae (Terry) Saunders, and sons John (Shawna)Williams, Deionne L. Robertson, and Lurshawn C. (Jamila) Williams: Grandchildren Destiny L. Robertson, Darrick L. (Haley} Robertson, Jewlius L. Williams, Lashawn A. (Abigail) Williams, and Kaden K. Williams: Great granddaughter Kirah L. Peoples.

Succumbed in death by his siblings, Inez Williams, Charlie Hairston, and John Henry Hairston. He always held deep affection for his siblings, Sister: Drema Hairston, and Brothers: Ronald Hairston, and Lynn (Chandra)Hairston. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins that were so dear to his heart.

Stephen was known as a joyful loving man whose laughter and warm spirit uplifted everyone he encountered. He deeply loved his family and took great pride in being a father, husband and grandfather. His wisdom, kindness, and unwavering faith left a lasting imprint of all that knew him. Though we mourn his earthly departure, we rejoice in knowing he has received his heavenly reward. His legacy of faith, service, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.

The family will receive and welcome friends on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 11:00am – 12:00pm followed by a Homegoing Celebration starting at 12:00pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Interment will take place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 12:00pm at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
