James Gregory Gasaway (Greg), passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was 67 years old.

Greg was born into two large southern families on October 31, 1958, in Marietta, Georgia, which he affectionately referred to as “the Promised Land.” His father, Wes Gasaway, lived in Marietta, Georgia, and his mother, the late Joyce Mulkey, was from Ellijay, a small town in the beautiful North Georgia mountains.

Greg cherished his family and friends from Marietta, and especially his Sprayberry High School friends. He attended the University of Georgia and was a staunch Bulldog fan.

Shortly after graduating from UGA, he felt led by God to attend Mid-American Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, TN. Greg’s passion for the Bible was infectious, inspiring others, including his wife, to value and love God’s Word through his example.

Greg’s time in Memphis brought many transformative experiences. He met his wife, Gail, at church and found numerous opportunities to minister in the name of Jesus.

Beloved friends who were like family were made, especially at Fellowship Evangelical Church and in ministry. While living in Memphis, Greg and Gail had the privilege of adopting their two children, Joshua and Elizabeth.

Greg eventually made the difficult decision to relocate in order to advance his career as a Purchasing Manager. As a lover of geography, he was grateful for a job which allowed him to travel and explore places around the world that had fascinated him since childhood.

Greg’s love of God was reflected in his love of nature and the outdoors. Some of his best childhood memories were of hunting with his dad and brother or spending time on the lake with family and friends. Sharing these experiences with his own family was important to him. He bought a boat and created lasting memories with his children and friends.

Greg is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gail, a son, Joshua, a daughter, Elizabeth, two granddaughters, Adrian and Rosalie (whom he adored), his father, Wes Gasaway, his brother, Russell Gasaway (wife, Connie), nephews, Dalton and Dillon, and a niece, Kelsey. Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Mulkey Gasaway.

Greg’s good character was reflected in the way he lived his life, but it really shined in the way he faced death and the challenges of Parkinson’s disease. He chose not to be bitter or angry towards God. He was patient, kind, and thankful for those who cared for him, and he let them know with his encouraging words and notes.

Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Donate online (www.parkinson.org) or by check to: 5757 Waterford District Drive, Suite 310, Miami, FL 33126.
