Betty Jo Dozier, 97 passed away peacefully at home with her daughter Judi Dozier and her daughter-in-law Karen Dozier by her side on February 18, 2026.

Betty Jo Dozier was born in Enoree, SC on 2.20.1928 to Benjamin O. Miller and Ethel McGee Miller. Jo was predeceased by her husband of 60 years William Gilmore Dozier of Rock Hill SC, her son Kerry Scott Dozier, and her son Danny Lynn Dozier.

She is survived by daughter Judi Dozier, son Kevin L. Dozier (Kim Dozier) daughter-in-law Karen J.  Dozier, two grandsons, Devin S. Tiernan (Kate Tiernan), and Ashton S. Dozier.  She also has two great grandsons, Simon G. Tiernan, and Arthur H. Tiernan.

After graduating high school in Woodruff, SC Jo attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC as a music major.  Jo served as pianist and organist at Park Baptist Church, Rock Hill, SC, and West End Baptist Church, Rock Hill, SC. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Rock Hill, SC where she served as organist and pianist for 32 years. She retired and continued to play for the First Baptist Joy Choir. She also served at Inspiration Baptist Church as pianist. In Myrtle Beach she played piano for her Sunday School class at Socastee Baptist Church. She devoted many years working at Dozier’s Grocery, the family business.

Jo’s music playing the piano and organ was her calling and her ministry through her whole life since she was a little girl. She was steadfast in her belief in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She delighted in every church service, wedding, and considered it an honor to be asked to play for funerals. She also played for many social events wherever and whenever. Her talent was a natural gift. She felt her music very deeply and shared it freely.

She considered her family her greatest treasures. She loved and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her Jo Jo. They were the light of her life each day and brought her so much joy and laughter.

Jo cherished her extended family as well and relished in all family reunions and visits.

She had many lifelong friendships that meant so much to her, and she enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband in their retirement years.

To her family, Jo was a strong woman who we all hoped would live forever.
