Carlos Owen Gardner Jr., 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Piedmont Medical Center in Fort Mill, SC.
Carlos was born on December 4, 1940, to the late Carlos Owen Gardner Sr. and Lavinia Hamilton Gardner in Richmond, Virginia. During his life, he served the United Methodist Church for 43 years and the U.S. National Guard for 24 years. He loved the outdoors, cowboy movies, trains, Duke basketball, reading, and learning. His greatest treasure was his wonderful collection of people. He loved us all unconditionally, openly, and forgivingly. He really believed we are all God’s children. Therefore, we are all brothers and sisters.
Carlos is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Janice Gardner; his children, Carlos Owen Gardner III “Tres”, Doug Gardner (Nancy), and Katie Taylor; his grandchildren, Rivers Ann, Ridge, Jack, and Eleanore; and his numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Westminster Presbyterian Chapel, 1320 India Hook Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
