Edna Ruth Brown, 84, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on July 12, 1941, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she was the beloved daughter of Harvey Ed Rector and Irene Susie Rector and was the youngest of her sibling’s.

Edna’s life was characterized by her love, strength, and undeniable entrepreneurial spirit. She dedicated her years not only to building businesses but also to spending as much time as possible with her children and grandkids. Alongside her husband, Leard Edward Brown Sr., she co-owned Brown‘s Catering, Brown‘s Derby, and Brown‘s Deli. These establishments became cherished gathering spots, filled with laughter and the delicious aroma of barbecue.  Her caring nature led her into a career in caregiving where she spent almost a decade caring for others before finally retiring in Ringgold Georgia near her oldest daughter Christina and family.

Beyond her professional achievements, Edna embraced life with joy. She loved playing Rummy, bingo, singing karaoke, dancing and her favorite the slot machines. She cherished time spent with family and friends. Her influence was profound; she had a way of always landing on her feet, making sure that no one ever felt like a burden. Edna was genuine and down to earth, consistently making people feel comfortable. A sweet Southern lady, she also had a spirited side when it was needed.

She is survived by her longtime partner, Sam Song,  her children, Christina Wofford (Greg), Susan Bataineh (Will), and Leard Eddie Brown Jr. (Vanessa),  her sister Ethel Adam’s and brother Earl Rector; along with 6 cherished grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and 8 great -great grandchildren who will carry her spirit in their hearts every day.

Edna’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and finding a way through life’s challenges. The lessons she taught and the memories she created will continue to inspire her family for generations.

Though she will be deeply missed, Edna will never be forgotten.
