Virginia “Jennie” Louise Dellinger Hager, 85, passed away on April 7, 2026.

She was born on August 7, 1940, in Statesville, North Carolina, to the late Mack Dellinger and Martha Jane Lowery Dellinger.

In addition to her parents, Jennie was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Fred “Jerry” Hager; her sister Priscilla White and her husband Franklin White of Statesville, NC. She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law Frances Parks of Cleveland NC, sister-in-law Nancy Blankenship and her husband Arthur Blankenship both of Cleveland, NC, and brother-in-law Richard E. Hager of Jenkinsville, SC.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Fred Hager of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Hampton Hager of Edgemoor, South Carolina; her loving daughter-in law Christi Hager of Edgemoor, SC, and granddaughters Martha Hager and Miriam Hager of Edgemoor, SC. She is also survived by her brother, Steve Dellinger (Linda) of Greenville, SC, brothers-in-law L.A. Parks of Cleveland, NC, Michael Hager (Liza) of Raleigh, NC, and Dennis Hager of Marydel, Md., and many nieces and nephews.

Jennie grew up in Statesville, NC on Salisbury Road. She graduated from Cool Springs High School in 1958. It was here that she met the love of her life, on the first day of 8th grade. He told her “I pick you”, and the rest is history. Jennie was a talented artist, painter, gardener, florist, singer, pianist, cook, and homemaker. She could take what looked like a totally dead plant, nurse it back to life, and make it flourish.

Her meals and sweet tea were famous. She always cooked with love. No visit was complete without sitting down at her table and having a meal. She always placed others before herself and lived to serve others.

She was admired by many. Not because she was a great cook. Not because she was a gracious host. Not because she was an artist. But because she listened, encouraged, supported, and showed love to everyone. She was a humble servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
