Gary Joe Jennings, 79, of Rock Hill, SC passed away on May 1, 2026. Services will be held at Woodland United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 7. Visitation will be held beginning at 1 p.m. in the church’s Wesley Hall. Interment will be private. The service will be officiated by Pastor Robin Griffeth and Juliette Phillpot.
Mr. Jennings was born in Waynesville, NC on June 18, 1946, the son of the late J.C. and Joanna Jennings. He graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy in Oakridge, NC and served in the U.S. Army. He was deployed to Heidelberg, Germany where he worked in the military hospital. After being discharged, Mr. Jennings worked in the Computer Science field for nearly 40 years.
Mr. Jennings was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class where he served as the class treasurer and taught Sunday School. He also served as the church’s head usher, lay leader, and Sunday School Superintendent, and was a member of the United Methodist Men.
Mr. Jennings is survived by his wife of 53 years Doris Martin Jennings, daughter Jennifer Van Cleave of West Columbia, SC and a son Gary Joe Jennings, Jr. “Jody” (Karla) of Matthews, NC. Mr. Jennings leaves behind a grandson, Graham Jennings and brothers Terry (Lisa) Jennings and Tom (Cathy) Jennings. He was preceded in death by brother Jim Jennings.
