Mr. Elliott Ray Baker, Sr., 81, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. A graveside service will be held on May 29, 2026, at 3 PM at Laurelwood Cemetery, the family will receive loved ones at Shield of Faith Church, 2499 Firetower Rd., on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 5 PM.
Born in Rock Hill, SC, on March 1, 1945, Ray was the son of Harry Elliott Baker and Mattie Frances Cauthen. He graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1963. He married Linda Elaine Plyler of Fort Mill, SC, in 1964. He worked for Bowater for 39 years. He faithfully attended Shield of Faith Church and was an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Brig. Gen. Micah Jenkins Camp.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Wilson Vance Plyler and Jesse Kate Myers; his sister, Myrtle Baker Irvin; his brothers-in-law, Jack Irvin, Bill Plyler, and Dennis Kirby; his son, Elliott, Jr. “Buddy”; and his grandson, Thomas Patterson.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linda; his children, Kathryn (Christopher Mason) and Jason; his daughter-in-law Heidi Perry Baker; his grandchildren, Blake Patterson, Kaitlyn Patterson (Josh) Holbrook, Ava Baker, Elin Baker, Audrey Mason, Kase Baker, and Jesse Mason; his great-grandchildren, Remi and Sunny Holbrook; and his sister-in-law, Kathy Plyler (Dennis) Kirby.
