John Lester Neely, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on June 3, 2026 at the age of 90.

John was born in Van Wyck, SC on October 2, 1935 to Lester and Maude Neely.  He grew up in Rock Hill and attended Winthrop Training School, Spartanburg Junior College, and Clemson College.  He served in the US Army, Active Duty for two years and Reserves for two years. He was employed at Celanese for 38 years before retiring. John was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Dot Horton of Kershaw, SC and Wallace Neely of Rock Hill.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sheila Rogers Neely; two daughters, Lori Leslie (David), and Lynn Bogan (Wayne); five grandchildren, Jonathan McGuire, Neely Leslie Kellett (West), John David Brooks, Cal Leslie (Lindsay), and Tonie Bogan; and two great-grandsons, Ward Kellett and Calvin Kellett.

John was a long-time member of Neely’s Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he served a Deacon and an Elder.  He was active on several committees and was a Cub Scout Leader.

A graveside service will be held at the Neely’s Creek Church Cemetery at 11:00 AM Saturday June 6, 2026, with visitation following in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Neely’s Creek Church Capital Campaign.
