Diane Flanagan McNinch of York, SC. mother and grandmother to many, friend to all, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026 after a long battle with cancer. She was 64.
Born in Washington, DC, Diane grew up with her younger brother and family in Prince George’s County, Md. After attending Eleanor Roosevelt High School, she began raising her own family before eventually settling in York, where she remarried and lived for 28 years. Diane had three children of her own, but her collection grew through marriage and eventually with her numerous grandchildren. The bigger the family, the happy Diane became.
She was known for her sharp wit, selflessness, and willingness to help family and friends. Diane had an unending capacity for caring and generosity, often giving the last of what she had to those who needed it. You had to be quick around her, as she could always make the joke and trade playful barbs with the best. Sarcasm was her currency, and if you got to experience it, you held a special place in her heart.
Diane had tremendous strength and would share it with those who needed that support. Even in her final days, she impressed strangers with her toughness and appreciative attitude — she was already an angel before she became one.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Flanagan, Sr. and Adelaide Frances King Flanagan Mylott, and her brother, John “Danny” Flanagan, Jr. (Karen).
Diane is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Joe McNinch; her children, Jason Flanagan (Leslie), Patrick “P.J.” Curtice, Jessica Curtice, Holly McNinch (Mike Baldwin), and Heather Taylor (Blake); grandchildren Breanna Curtice, Bryson Clinton, Brylee Curtice, Briella Curtice, Brandon Taylor, Hayley Taylor, Jeremiah Hetherington, and Sameyah Flanagan; nephews John “J.D.” Flanagan III (Caitlin), Sean Flanagan (Jackie), and Joe Curtice; nieces Jacquelyn Nichols (Domenic), and Chandler Case; her aunt, Marie “Ree-Ree” Johnson; and numerous cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Capers Chapel Church in Chester, SC. A celebration of life ceremony will take place in Greenbelt, Md at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House.
