Aubrey McKeown Wanser, 91, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Friday, June 12, 2026, while receiving hospice care at White Oak Manor in York, South Carolina.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Aubrey leaves behind a multigenerational legacy of love. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Tumlin (Clint) of Rock Hill and Linda Youngblood (Max) of Rock Hill; her grandchildren, Emily Cook (Chris) of Fort Mill, Sarah Pertuset (Andy) of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Leah Soffera (Tim) of Fort Mill, Laura Shockley of Fort Mill, and Bobby Laffitte (Danielle) of Rock Hill; her eight beloved great-grandchildren, Quinn, Mills, Annie, Georgie, J, Ty, Lawson, and Alyssa; her niece Sheri Parker (Greg) and nephew Russell McKeown (Laural); three step-grandchildren, Max Youngblood Jr., Matthew Youngblood (Victoria), and Rachel Dellinger (John); and several cherished step-great-grandchildren.
Welcoming her home were those who preceded her in death: the love of her life, her husband, Robert Wanser, her parents, Sara “Tunney” and A.W. “Sig” McKeown; her brother, Billy McKeown; and her special sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and George Wanser.
Aubrey’s life cannot be fully captured in a few paragraphs, but two principles guided nearly everything she did: family comes first, and helping others matters. She did not simply hold the titles of daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother—she lived them fully, investing her time, energy, and heart into those she loved.
For more than two decades, Aubrey served as a nurse with the Rock Hill Health Department, retiring in 1989 from caring for her community with compassion and dedication. Following her retirement, she continued her life’s work by helping educate and mentor future nurses at York Technical College, into the early 2000’s.
In her retirement years, Aubrey found joy in the simple blessings of life: time spent with family, cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing stories, offering wisdom, volunteering at St. Anne’s Catholic Church and creating a home where everyone felt welcomed and loved. Her steady presence, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family will be missed beyond measure.
Aubrey leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that will continue through the generations she so deeply cherished and helped raise.
Her family would like to extend a very special thank you to Susan Chevalier, her care-giver.
Aubrey’s family will receive friends at Greene Funeral Home NW Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina 29732, on Tuesday, June 16 at 1:00 – 1:50 p.m. with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4290 Old York Rd, Rock Hill, SC.
