Born on September 15, 1951, to Olie A. and Dorothy M. Mitchum, Tondia grew up in Eau Claire, South Carolina. It was there, in the 7th grade at Heyward Gibbs, that she met the love of her life, Johnny A. Harrison. Their childhood sweetheart romance blossomed into a beautiful 56-year marriage filled with unwavering devotion, laughter, and deep love.
Tondia was a proud graduate of Eau Claire High School, Class of 1969, where she was known for her speed, earning numerous first-place ribbons as a standout member of the track team. She went on to further her education, earning an associate degree from Southern Wesleyan University.
Tondia brought her sharp mind and strong work ethic to a long and successful career at BellSouth, where she retired as an engineer after 34 years of dedicated service.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she poured her heart into serving her church community. Tondia was a pillar of her congregation, touching countless lives as a Sunday school teacher, Acteens and GA leader, Vacation Bible School worker, and a member of the visitation team. Whether she was working hard in the church kitchen or stepping in wherever a hand was needed, her servant’s heart was always on display.
Above all, Tondia fiercely loved her family and friends. She was her children’s biggest fan, heavily involved in all of their sports. Her vibrant spirit and enthusiastic voice could always be distinctly heard cheering from the stands during every game and match.
Tondia was also blessed with an abundance of lifelong friends and took great joy in keeping in touch with them all throughout the years.
She leaves behind a rich legacy of love and is survived by her husband, Johnny A. Harrison; her children, Julie H. Ruff (Sean) and Matthew A. Harrison (Kate); her grandchildren, Harrison Ruff, Haley Ruff, Mille Grace Harrison, and Graham Harrison; and her sister: Tina Hendrix (Steve).
Tondia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Olie A. and Dorothy M. Mitchum, and her dear sister, Gail Sox.
Flowers or a donation in Tondia’s memory to Northside Baptist Church are appreciated.
