Janice Williams Nichols, 84, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026 at Westminster Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill, SC.
Following a private burial on July 9, 2026 at Forest Hills Cemetery, a Service of Praise to God for the Life of Janice Nichols will be held at 11 a.m. at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Janice was born on Sept. 16, 1941 in Whitmire, SC, daughter of the late Margery King Williams. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Winthrop University.
It was her joy to live out her calling for nearly 30 years as an elementary school teacher, mostly with kindergarteners. After her full-time teaching career, she served as a teacher’s aide and literacy tutor for at-risk students.
Janice was a devoted follower of Jesus, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed family, camping, traveling, Winthrop events, and watching golf on TV. She was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church since 1963.
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Joel “Nick” Nichols, and her brother, Larry Williams.
She is survived by her two sons, Joel Jeffrey Nichols (Maria) of Huntersville, NC and Michael Horace Nichols (Andrea) of Fort Mill, SC; four grandsons, Ryan, Matthew, Owen, and Wesley; and her sister, Beverly (Conrad).
Memorials may be made in her name to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, the Winthrop University Scholarship Fund, or the American Heart Association.
