Melford Raymond Damron Jr., 98, of Rock Hill passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, at Westminster Health & Rehabilitation.  Raymond was born on May 29, 1928, in Charlotte where he lived until moving to Westminster Towers in Rock Hill at the age of 90.  He is the only child of the late Melford Raymond Damron, Sr. and Rosalie Williams Damron.

Raymond attended Central High School and NC State University where he was a proud member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Following graduation, he served as a Lieutenant in the US army during the Korean War from 1951-1953.  Lieutenant Damron earned a Bronze Star Medal for his service in military operations building bridges.

Upon returning from Korea, he pursued a graduate degree at NC State and taught for three years.  His career began with Southern Engineering Corporation where he was VP of Sales. In 1973, he formed Damron Steel Corporation and retired in 1994. Raymond was a long-time member of Myers Park Country Club and a Charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He loved spending time in the mountains, gardening and working in the yard.  During his time living independently at Westminster Towers, he was Activities Chairman and enjoyed planning trips and socializing.

Raymond is survived by his daughter, Ann Stegall, daughter-in-law Maribeth Damron, grandchildren Triston Stegall (Jade), Will Damron, Hunter Damron (Grace), and Elizabeth Stegall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Anderson Damron, his son Gregory Damron, son-in-law Gene Stegall, and dear friend and companion Ruth Page.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 31st from 2-4pm in Heritage Hall at Westminster Towers, 1330 India Hook Road, Rock Hill 29732.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1st at 11:00am in the Chapel at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead Street, Charlotte NC 28204.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church or Providence Hospice Care, 500 Lakeshore Parkway, Rock Hill SC 29730.
