Betty Groce Overcash, age 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 31, 2026, at Westminster Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill, SC. Betty was born on February 25, 1938, in High Point, NC where she attended Oakview Methodist Church. It was there at their youth group that she met her beloved husband of 70 years, Ron Overcash. They married young and started their lives together at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. After Asbury, Betty worked in the Madison school system while Ron attended divinity school at Duke University. While in seminary they received their first assignment with the Methodist Church, where she took on her role as minister’s wife. Over the years they served many churches within the Western NC conference, making many lifelong friends. She always loved her role as minister’s wife and felt it was her calling; however, her highest calling and deepest devotion was in raising her two daughters. Her years following ministry were spent in West Jefferson, NC where they raised Christmas trees and enjoyed their retirement years. Betty loved her morning sunrises overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains while enjoying coffee. She enjoyed her beautiful flowers and especially the hummingbirds they attracted. Family was a top priority for Betty. Time spent with her siblings, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was treasured.
Betty is lovingly remembered and survived by her husband Ron Overcash and her daughters Tonya Overcash Conrad (Steve) and Lorre Overcash Steele (Troy).
Among her greatest blessings were those who called her MeMe. Her five grandchildren, Adam Farrow (Gwen), Lindsey Antonio (Jonathan), Aiden Steele, Morgan Batton (Paul), and Lexi Conrad; as well as her eight great-grandchildren, Abi Farrow, Ella Farrow, Caroline Farrow, Olivia Antonio, Finley Antonio, Graham Antonio, Lee Batton, and Luke Batton. Each of these special children gave her great joy! Betty is also survived by her two siblings, Barbara Jennings (Ted) and Jerry Groce (Sandy). Betty leaves behind many precious memories as well as a legacy of faith carried forward through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She leaves a family shaped by her love, and generations who will tell her stories and remember her example, thanking God for the gift of her life.
One of Betty’s favorite verses was 1 Corinthians 1:9, “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
A memorial service for Betty will be held at Midway Baptist Church in West Jefferson, NC on Saturday, August 8th, at 2:00, with visitation to follow.
