Rock Hill, SC – Elizabeth “Betty” Good Thornal, 74, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at her home.
A native of Rock Hill, SC Betty was the daughter of the late Banks Hardy Good and the late Alexa Ragin Good.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ernest Edgar Thornal, III of the home; her daughter Alexa Rowe of Sumter, her son, Sam Smith of Columbia, SC; grandson, Hampton Rowe (Mary Everette Rowe) and their daughter, Elli Rhodes and grandson, John Elliott “JE” Rowe, IV. She is also survived by her brother, John David Good; her sister, Marie Good Wright, both of Rock Hill and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty graduated from Winthrop College and taught sixth and eighth grades at Sullivan Middle School until her retirement. She was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Betty loved spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed visiting Edisto and the Gatlinburg, TN mountains.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 10:00-10:45 am in the Ebenezer ARP Church narthex, 2132 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am in the church Sanctuary with Rev. Dr. Matt Allison officiating. Burial will follow the service in Laurelwood Cemetery.
