Reverend Arthur Desport Vick Jr., affectionately known to his friends as “Artie” and to his beloved family as “PawPaw Artie,” went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 12, 2026, at the age of 75.
Born and raised in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Artie was the son of the late Judy V. Faulkenbury, the late Arthur Desport Vick Sr., and his late stepfather, Roger Faulkenbury. He was a proud graduate of Rock Hill High School before answering a higher calling to ministry. He pursued his passion for faith and theology at Duke University Divinity School, preparing him for a lifetime of dedicated service to God and his community.
A man of deep commitment to his country, Reverend Vick honorably served in both the United States Air Force and the U.S. National Army Reserve. His dedication to service extended into his community as an active and proud member of the York County Shriners and the local Masons Lodge.
Throughout his life, Reverend Vick’s heart belonged to the congregations he shepherded. He poured his love, wisdom, and faith into the churches he served across South Carolina, leaving an indelible mark on the communities of Rock Hill, Lancaster, Chester, and Andrews. Driven by his passion for mission work and helping those in need, he dedicated 20 years of faithful service to the South Carolina Salkehatchie Methodist Summer Missionary Service and remained deeply involved in ministry by actively teaching a local Bible study for senior adults called the “Salty Dogs.”
When he was not in the pulpit or serving his community, Artie could often be found casting a line at his favorite fishing hole or passionately cheering on his beloved Duke Blue Devils basketball team. Above all else, his greatest joy was spending quality time surrounded by his family and friends.
Artie’s legacy of love, faith, and devotion lives on through his cherished family. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Willis Vick; his stepmother, Dorothy Vick; and his children, Julie Lynn Auten (Chuck) of Rock Hill, SC, Robert Paul Smith (Kayce) of Rock Hill, SC, LeeAnne Wilson (Clint) of Great Falls, SC, Michael Vick of Lancaster, SC, and Jason Dill (Jyara) of York, SC.
He is also survived by his beloved siblings: Bobbie-Lynn Thomas (Buddy) of York, SC; Lisa Hoffman of Gastonia, NC; Melissa Lewis (Rich) of Ridgeport, MI; Nicole Matthews (LaRon) of Lake City, SC; Toni Lynch (Chris) of Lake City, SC; Thaddeus Vick (Tammy) of Cottageville, SC; and Dean Vick (Debbie) of Effington, SC.
His memory will also be treasured by his 18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews who will forever miss their PawPaw Artie.
Service Information:
A visitation will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Lakewood Baptist Church, located at 3520 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. A celebration of Reverend Vick’s life and ministry will follow immediately at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to “The Anchor Building Fund” at Lakewood Baptist Church.
