Lee Quillian Miller, 81, passed away Wednesday night surrounded by her husband of 58 years, her three children, and her dog. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18th from 6pm-8pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel (Rock Hill). On Wednesday, August 19th the family will also receive guests prior to the memorial service from 1:00pm-2:00pm with the service to follow in the Chapel at Greene Funeral Home, Northwest.
Lee was born on June 27,1945 in Morristown, Tennessee to Asbury William Quillian III and Flo Quillian. She is survived by her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Miller, her three children, Kimberly McKinney (Jimmy), Kathy Miller, and Brad Miller; her granddaughter Mae McKinney (Jacob), her brother, Asbury William Quillian IV, her two sisters, Kay Whitten, Annie Davis (Ben), and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Susan Lee, her inlaws, Stewart and Edna Miller, and her brothers-in-law Ronald S. Miller and James Watson.
Known to many as Momma Miller, she had the biggest heart for all those she came across. She poured her heart into her family, helping to provide the most loving, nurturing and fun home where many neighborhood children would spend countless hours playing games and learning about unconditional love. She started her career in education at Rawlinson Road Junior High where she provided a safe classroom in which students always felt welcomed and cared about. She obtained both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Winthrop University where she continued to help students on the college level while she worked at Career Services, the College of Business, the Dacus Library, and ultimately ended her career working in the Chemistry, Physics and Geology department while teaching classes in the Sociology department.
She was a strong believer in community service evident by the countless hours she spent serving on boards/working with groups like Hospice and Community Care, Shepherd’s Center, Emmaus, and Central Carolina Chrysalis. Lee was the author of the The Journey – A Celebration of Life, A Guidebook for Writing Your Life Story. She spent her “free time” conducting workshops on legacy writing at places like Park Point Retirement Community and helping families and corporations write their stories, including the City of Rock Hill, Comporium, Camp Cherokee, and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
Spending time with her husband at their houseboat on Lake Thurmond while she watched her granddaughter grow up learning to fish, ski, and just relax on the water, was something she relished in for many years. In recent years she spent time cuddled up with her dog Tinkerbell next to her hubby and watching birds outside her kitchen window. She will forever be remembered for the unconditional love in her heart, the sparkle in her eye, and the smile on her face.
