Doris B. Watkins, 87, peacefully went to be with her Savior on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at home surrounded by her daughters.
Raised in Lancaster, SC, Doris was the daughter of the late Annie and Charlie Cowan. Aside from her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, William Calvin Watkins, her two sons William Eric Watkins and William Calvin Watkins, Jr. and sisters Ruth Watkins and Judy Payne.
Doris retired from Rock Hill GYN & OB as Office Manager after 23 years of service. She was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Lesslie for over 60 years. She loved her family and enjoyed having family gatherings at her home and cooking for everyone that was hungry.
She and Calvin loved all children and had unofficially adopted Kaye Stophel, who she is preceded in death by, Gail Mangum and Willie Plyler, who she is also preceded in death by; and they and their families remain part of her family to this day which added two adopted grandsons, Shawn Stinson and Matthew Plyler.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Karen Moore (David) of Rock Hill and Beth Penland (Jamie) of McConnells, her grandsons, Christopher Moore (Rebecca) of Camden and Joshua Moore of Rock Hill, as well as four great grandchildren Brynlee Moore, Braelynn Moore, Lennox Moore and Everleigh Moore, and sister, Carolyn Haile of Lancaster.
A service will be held at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 1571 Anderson Rd S, Rock Hill, SC 29730 on Wednesday, September, 23, 2026. Family will welcome and receive friends from 1:00P.M.-2:00P.M. followed by the funeral service at 2:00P.M. Burial will take place immediately after the service at Hopewell Presbyterian Cemetery.
