Mr. Roy Oliver Adkins 78, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
Born in Pikeville KY, Roy was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Adkins and the late Viola Justice Adkins. Roy retired from Ford Motor Company in Rawsonville Michigan after 33 years of service. He went on several short-term mission trips to Haiti, Mexico and Trinidad and also assisted in Hurricane Katrina Relief with his grandson, Caleb. He was a member of Park Baptist Church. Roy was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.
Roy is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years, Sue Taylor Adkins; his children, Thomas Adkins of Rock Hill; Shelly Sprain (Keith) of Brentwood, TN; Ann Wasson (Steve) of Rockford, MI and Rebecca Vazquez of Land O Lakes, FL; his sisters, Wilma Roden of Romuls, MI and Clena Maynard of Portsmouth, OH; his brothers, John Henry Adkins of Jackson, TN; Denver Adkins of KY; Jeff Adkins of Rarden, OH and Garry Adkins of Boonesville, MS; his grandchildren, Caleb Adkins (Angela) of Greenville, SC; Ethan Adkins (Johannah) of Taylors, SC; Allyson Storey (Tim) of Chester, SC; Jesse Adkins of Greenville, SC; Casey Adkins of Rock Hill; Brooklyn Adkins of Rock Hill; Troy Adkins of Rock Hill; Stephanie Spangenberg (Joshua) of Lowell, MI; Rachel Wasson of Allendale, MI; Johnny Vazquez of San Juan, PR; Alyna Vazquez of Aurora, CO; Christopher Sprain of Brentwood, TN and Katherine Sprain of Brentwood, TN; and his great-grandchildren, Acadia, Bishop and Cecily Adkins and Isaac Spangenberg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Glessie Burke, Bessie Mae Leedy, Nanny Marie Justice, Ethel Riddle, and Karen Elliot and his brothers, Audi Lee Adkins, Bobby Lee Adkins, and Clifton Adkins, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 11:00-11:45 am at Park Baptist Church, 717 E. Main Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 noon at the church with Reverend Grant Hinson officiating. Burial will follow the service in Forest Hills Cemetery.
