Rock Hill, SC – After a long battle with cancer Mark Edward Scarborough went to be with Jesus Feb. 5, 2025. Mark was born in Piney View, West Virginia October 20, 1945. He was the son of the late James I Scarborough and Garnet Richmond Scarborough. He was loved by his siblings, the late Dr. J. I. Scarborough, Carnes Scarborough Barrett, David Kent Scarborough. He is survived by two sisters, Judy Scarborough Kozar and Nancy Sue DeAndre (Mark).

Before his formal education Mark was “home schooled”, or as he said, “drilled” by his older sisters. No doubt that was the beginning of his love for learning and his desire to achieve. Mark excelled in academics and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson high school, Beckley, WV and a graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Morgantown, WV.

After gradation he took a position with Celanese Fibers. He remained with Celanese his entire career achieving the position as Senior Research Associate. He was considered tops in his field and assisted Celanese plants with problem solving in the production operation in Mexico, Narrows VA, and Lanaken, Belgium. Mark spent 3 years in Zhuhai, China as Deputy General Manager responsible for production, responsible operation and startup of grass a roots plant. The Celanese plant was completed and fully operational under budget and ahead of schedule.

Mark is also survived by his faithful and devoted wife Carol Bishop Scarborough. Mark and Carol were married May 4, 1990 and were soul mates, lovers, partners in crime and enjoyed constant companionship and was each other’s best friend. Mark and Carol had a magical life together and was blessed by God with almost 35 years.

Mark is also survived by his 3 children that he loved very much. Michelle Scarborough Harrison (Peter), Heidi Scarborough Hogan (Chip) and son Kenneth Mark Scarborough. Grandchildren Korey Ward (Stephanie), Jordan Mark Kustas, Hailey Wise, Alex Hogan (Anna), Zachery Hogan (Selena), 2 great grandchildren Isabella and Gabby Hogan.

Step Children James Clayton Elrod (Melanie) and Katie Elrod Whitfield (Robbie). Six step grandchildren Hope Harvard, Graham Harvard, Cely Pate (Logan) Sarah Harmon (Thomas) McKenzie Whitfield (Caleb), Max Whitfield (Ella). Nieces and nephews.

Besides his family Mark loved motorcycles, hunting, fishing and swapping lies with buddies in Meter, Georgia.

Mark loved Jesus and we will celebrate a life well lived Monday, February 10, 2025, NewKirk Baptist Church, 175 Museum Road, Rock Hill, SC. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm.
