Judith Gastelu known to family and friends as Toty, was born on March 7,1931.  She was married to Pedro Gastelu and raised five children.

Judith attended Aleman School in Oruro Bolivia, graduated as a Secretary from Icro Institute.  She first worked as a Secretary at the Hoshield and Aramayo mining firm and later was promoted as a Purchasing Manager buying products for nine of the most important mines in Bolivia.  Once I asked her about her duties, she went into specific details as she was living those moments again.  It was interesting to know many of the products came from England, France and other parts of the world.

Although she was asked to join in opening the La Paz office, she decided to stay in Oruro as she met Pedro Gastelu my father.   They were married for 66 years.  Both had a lot of fun together and went to many parties until the early morning hours.

In the early 70’s she worked as a shorthand teacher.

She was a member of Mesa Redonda Panamericana and Rotary Club for many years. On Mondays she enjoyed spending time with her culinary friends and learned how to make delicious cakes as well as spending some time playing rummy.

On her spare time, she liked listening to music.  Some of her favorite songs were by Dean Martin, Carlos Gardel, ABBA.  One of her favorite songs was Chiquitita by ABBA. It reminded her of my little brother Pedro.  Just a few weeks ago we danced to cha -cha songs. She had fun dancing and listening to old and new tunes.

The family celebrated her last birthday with a Carnival theme.  Ballons, cerpentina, a colorful cake, and colorful drinks were served to family and friends.

Judith, we will always remember your sparkly eyes, your classy style, and kindness.   I will personally miss your dry sense of humor. My sisters, brother and I want to thank all our family members for their support.

Services for Judith will be 11:30 am, Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
