Rock Hill, SC – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Caroline Rulin Chou, who left this world peacefully on June 10, 2025. Born on October 15, 1938, in Tianjin, China, and spending her teen and young adult years in Hong Kong before immigrating to the US, Caroline lived a life full of love, compassion, and dedication to her family and community.
Caroline was the beloved daughter of Harold CY Chou and Nancy Kwo, and later welcomed the nurturing presence of her stepmother, Daisy CK Kuo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Katherine Huang, Paulina Chou, Henry Y Chou, and Damian Cheong-Leen. Despite these losses, Caroline’s spirit remained vibrant, deeply rooted in the love of her family and friends.
She leaves behind a legacy that includes her devoted cousin and best friend, Foon-Ling Lui, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Caroline was a proud mother to her three children: Rachel Hui-Hubbard (married to James Hubbard) of Rock Hill, SC; Adrienne Renee Hui (married to Thomas Ebner) of North Canton, OH; and Daniel Jason Hui (married to Tammy Yu) of Malvern, PA. She was a cherished grandmother of her eight grandchildren: Sophia Hubbard, Helena Hubbard, Tabytha Walls, Meredyth Walls, Dillon Walls, Hayden Walls, and Emma Hui.
Caroline most enjoyed her work as a registered nurse and midwife. Throughout her life, her nurturing nature extended far beyond her profession, as she brought warmth and kindness to everyone she met, enriching friends and family with some of her Chinese heritage and culture. Caroline’s passions included walking, tai-chi, origami, mahjongg and family beach trips, activities that brought her joy and connection to her community. She also delighted in baking delicious banana bread and applie pie to share with family and friends, and sewing when her children were younger.
Her vibrant personality and zest for life will be sorely missed by all who knew her. As friends have said, Caroline was a delight, her warmth and laughter could light up any room. She touched countless lives, and her legacy will continue through the love she shared and the lessons she taught.
A visitation to honor Caroline’s life will be held on June 21, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, located at 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her remarkable life and the indelible mark she left on all of us.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Caroline’s memory to Wayne T Patrick Hospice & Community Care or the Upper Palmetto YMCA, organizations that embody her spirit of compassion and community.
Caroline Rulin Chou’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and service. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace, knowing she made the world a better place.
