Rock Hill, SC – Anne Kimbrell Newman went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 22nd, 2024. She was born February 17th, 1942, in her family home in Rock Hill, SC. She grew up in Rock Hill and went to Rock Hill High School, graduating in 1960. She studied at the Nursing School at Mercy Hospital, where she went on to work full-time in the laboratory. Anne married her childhood friend Tommy on December 16th, 1962, after going to school together since elementary school. The Newmans then moved to Savannah, GA for Tommy’s service in the Air Force. While in Georgia, she gave birth to their first son Jeffery. After he was born, they moved back to Rock Hill where they grew their family and had Bryan, Steven, and Michael. After raising the four boys, she returned to work at Rock Hill Orthopedics in 1976 and worked there for 15 years before she retired.

Anne Newman is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Dorothy Hyatt Kimbrell; and her brother, Dicky Kimbrell.  She is survived by her sister, Jane Shillinglaw and husband Eugene of Rock Hill, SC; her brother, Buddy Kimbrell and wife Susan of York, SC; and her sister, Cathy Fairey and husband Wade Sr. of Rock Hill, SC; and many nieces and nephews.  She is survived by her husband, Tommy Newman, and their sons, Jeffrey Newman and wife Judy of Apex, NC; Bryan Newman and wife Wilma of Rock Hill, SC; Steven Newman and wife Aimee of Le Claire, IA; Michael Newman and wife Krista of Rock Hill, SC. She was “Granny” to fourteen grandchildren: Ethan (Lila), Heather (Daniel), Matthew (Megan), Austin (Rachel), Kelly, Holly, Laura (Connor), Trevor, Virginia (Trevor), Dorothy, Joseph, Margaret, Hope, and James. Her first great-grandchild is due in August.

Anne was a devout believer and was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Associate Reformed for over 70 years. There she was a lifelong active member of The Women of The Church, sang alto in the choir and served on committees such as Kitchen Committee and Devoted Drivers as well as the Bereavement Team. She taught Sunday School and led a Girl’s Small Group and was a regular member of her Women’s Circle group.  She was also an active member of the Second Mile Club with her husband. Anne was awarded the Life Membership Certificate of the Woman’s Synodical Union in 2006.

Anne’s favorite part of life was being involved with her family and community. She was a Girl Scout Troop leader and later served as the registrar for local Troops. As her family grew, Anne attended countless sporting and special activities for all of her grandchildren. Always wanting to bring her family together, she hosted many family gatherings and holidays where everyone was welcome, and you could always count on Anne for a game of cards or a puzzle.  Along with cooking, canning, and preparing meals, she loved to spend time outside with her plants and in nature. She loved to explore the world with her husband and later with her children and grandchildren. Her love knew no bounds.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 12:30-2:00 pm at Ebenezer ARP Church, 2132 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. A Service of Witness To The Resurrection For Anne will be held in the Sanctuary at 2:30 pm, followed by the burial in the church cemetery.
