Rock Hill, SC – Arthur John Mason, 77, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025, at his home in Rock Hill, with his family by his side.

A celebration of life service will be held for Arthur Mason at 1pm, on Saturday January 25, 2025, at Northside Baptist Church 1140 Curtis Street, Rock Hill, SC.  The family will also hold a visitation on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 6:00-7:30PM, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock, Hill, SC 29732.

Arthur was born on December 14, 1947 in Caballero Paraguay, the son of missionary parents Arthur Herbert Mason and Lilian Perkins Mason. After high school graduation in Argentina, he left South America to attend university in Ontario, Canada. He had planned to pursue a degree in engineering but was attracted to a new program offered at the University of Waterloo; computer science and mathematics. He graduated in 1969.

For many years, Arthur was an IT consultant before venturing into Christian Missions work first with OM International in Carlisle England and then with SIM International in Fort Mill South Carolina. He was known as a quiet man, a good listener, well organized and detail orientated. In his corporate life as well as for his mission’s commitments, he traveled the world quite extensively.

In retirement; he continued to support missions work, he loved traveling, enjoyed reading, gardening and special times with his family.

The driving force throughout his life was always his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. As Philippians 1:27 says “…Strive to live in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” Arthur was an elder and active member of Northside Baptist Church in Rock Hill.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith “Judy” Irene Mason; his children: Andrew Philip Mason (Melisa) and Mary-Ann Elizabeth Furey (Patrick). He had 8 grandchildren: Hannah Christine Martin (Taylor), Nathan Andrew Mason, Emmanuella Rose Mason, Kathryn Shiloh Furey, Evangeline Mason Furey, Joshua MacMillian Furey, Hudson Zheng Furey, and Benjamin Patrick Furey; his sister Dorothy Macfarlane; his brother-in-law Frank Nabutete and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Margaret Ann Nabutete and his brother in law Robert “Bob” Macfarlane.
