Born in Danville, Virginia, Mr. Chelf was the son of the late Henry Hatcher Chelf and the late Elizabeth Kabrich Chelf. He was a graduate of Clemson University, where he played in the Tiger Band and the Jungaleers Jazz Ensemble. He was a chemical engineer and worked in the polymer manufacturing industry for over 40 years. He enjoyed watching Clemson football and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Chelf will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC. A burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4290 Old York Road, Rock Hill, SC.
He was a devoted husband to Carole Gantt Chelf for 51 years, until her death in 2014. Surviving are his daughters, Melisa Chelf Sirbu and her husband, Cristian, of Charleston, West Virginia, and Michelle Chelf Goodman and her husband, Ray, of Rock Hill; and seven grandchildren, Adelyn and Adria Sirbu, Joshua Goodman, Chloe Goodman Rambo, Meredith Reeves, Luke Goodman, and Benjamin Goodman. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Hall.
