Rock Hill, SC – Carol A. Olson, 79, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025 at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 2370 W. Main St, Rock Hill, SC with Norbert Hahn officiating.
Born in Chicago, IL, Mrs. Olson was the daughter of the late Kenneth Carlyle Nygaard and the late Marion Barkway Nygaard. She received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND and later earned her Master of Arts degree in Library Science with Minors in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN.
Carol worked as an Academic Librarian at Lutheran Seminaries (ELCA) in Minneapolis, MN and Columbus, OH. She was a member of the American Theological Library Association, the Ohio Theological Library Association, and the Minnesota Library Association, serving in various roles and on numerous subcommittees. Carol was also a Genealogist, serving as a member of multiple cultural organizations. She was also a member of the National Trust for Historical Preservation, a volunteer genealogist at Family History Center, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Reynoldsburg, OH and Fargo, ND, and a volunteer genealogist at the Sons of Norway, Kringen Lodge in Fargo, ND.
Carol loved genealogy, local history and travel, reading, knitting, making crafts and ornaments, playing games and cards, being with children and grandchildren, and connecting with classmates from all levels of her education journey.
Surviving are her husband, Ray A. Olson; her two sons, Eric Olson (Aria) of Rock Hill, SC and Peter Olson (Beth) of Columbus, OH; his seven grandchildren, William Agosto, Nevaeh Olson, Jermaine Olson, and Riley Olson of Rock Hill, SC, Isaac Olson of Fargo, ND, Aries Olson of Moorhead, MN, and Isaiah Olson of Phoenix, AZ; her brother, Robert Nygaard of Mound, MN; and her niece Gena Nygaard Calli of Medina, MN.
