Clarence Russell Broome, Jr, 90, of Fort Mill, South Carolina passed away on April 23, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina at Atrium Health Carolina Medical Center.
Born on December 28, 1935, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, he attended Rock Hill High School and served honorably in the United States Air Force. After his service, he worked in the textile mills around Rock Hill. He also had a painting business with his father. He retired after working for Suburban Propane company.
As a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Rock Hill, Russell helped established a food pantry ministry which served thousands of hungry people in the community while sharing the gospel. More recently, he was a devoted member of Lakewood Baptist Church active in men’s ministry and Bible study in the church. He loved having breakfast at Nishie G’s with friends and giving his testimony. Russell always prayed for family and friends in his car when he got home from those daily trips. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
The family will receive and welcome friends on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 and other times at his home at 302 Sidney Johnson Street, Fort Mill, SC 29715.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Lakewood Baptist Church, 3520 Mt. Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC 20732 with Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating the burial will take place immediately following the service at Unity Cemetery in Fort Mill.
He is survived by his sons, Larry (Debbie) Broome in Senoia, GA, Shane (Annette) Broome in Fort Mill, SC, and Anthony (Esther) Broome in El Dorado, TX, and grandchildren Jonathan (Jennifer) Broome in Carrollton, GA, Matthew (Gabriela) Broome in Flower Mound, TX, Philip (Brooke) Broome in Dumfries, VA, Josh (Shelli) Hargett in Rock Hill, SC, Jessica (Josh South) Hargett in Catawba, SC and Olivia Broome in El Dorado, TX, Ben (Sheena) Watson in Fort Mill, SC and fourteen great grandchildren along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Neeley Broome, daughter, Sue Hargett, granddaughter, Julia Broome, parents, Clarence and Julia Ayers Broome, brother, Thomas Broome, and sisters, Elizabeth Craig, Maxine Cunnup, and Jennifer Lynch.
Memorials may be made in Russell’s name to Lakewood Baptist Church Building Fund or to International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
