Mr. Claude M. Melton, Jr. “Marty” (70) passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, peacefully at home while surrounded by family. Memorial Service will be Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 11:00am at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel located at 2133 Ebenezer Rd. Rock Hill, SC 29732. Visitation with family and friends will follow the memorial service at noon. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery will be held in private with family after the visitation.

Marty was born on June 29, 1953, in Rock Hill, SC. He was the son of late Claude M. Melton, Sr., and the late Gladys Wynona Adcock Melton.  He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pamela Ferguson Melton of Rock Hill; son, Ryan Travis Melton; future daughter-in-law, Laura Conner; grandson, Charlie Conner better known to Marty as “Little Man.” Hs siblings include O’Shella Love, Glenna Devinney, and Wynona Sanders.

He was a 1973 graduate of Northwestern High School where he played football, baseball and wrestled. Along with playing an array of athletics, Marty was well-known for his singing voice. This singing ability led him to his participation in the Northwestern High School Choir. Upon graduating, he was chosen as the South Carolina All State Choir representative which allowed him to tour Europe.  Upon graduating high school, Marty attended Limestone University where he earned his college degree.

Marty was a former employee of Duke Energy, Catawba Nuclear Station, professor at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, safety director of Thermalkem & InChem in Rock Hill, and eventual owner & President of Southeastern Protective Services, which provided governmental security services to military bases around the nation.

Marty will be remembered best for his selfless and genuine personality along with his affectious laugh. His hobbies included coaching his son’s baseball teams, Clemson Tiger football, going to deer camp, spending time with his grandson, riding in his Jeep Wrangler, and traveling with his beloved wife. Up until his final days, Marty kept his joyful spirit and remained strong for his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Agape Care located at 3118 N. Main St. Lancaster, SC 29720.
