David Webster Hunt, Jr., 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 27, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.  Born in Rock Hill, S.C. on February 7, 1933, to David Webster Hunt, Sr. and Della Jolly Hunt, Dave, as he was known to his friends and family, grew up in Columbia, S.C. He graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1955, and enlisted in the Air Force.  While stationed in Seoul, South Korea, he fell in love at first sight with the love of his life, Betty Lee Hunt.  They married in 1958 and remained married until his death.

Dave was preceded in death by his father and mother and his beloved younger brother, Frank Hunt.  He is survived by his wife, Betty, his children, Christina Lee Hunt (Steve Davis) of Tulsa, OK, David Kenneth Hunt (Mimi) of Seneca, S.C. and his grandson, David Webster Hunt, III, of Charleston, S.C.

Any person who met Dave knew that he was a man who greatly loved his family and especially his wife.  He was also known for his sharp wit, intelligence and kindness, and his financial acumen.  Every person who encountered Dave got the full “Dave” treatment:  unconditional friendship, love and a lot of laughs.  After his retirement as Senior Production Planner at Bowaters, he and Betty traveled the world and enjoyed traveling with their family and their close friends, especially Sharon and Stan Rose.   Dave always enjoyed the Bowater Men’s Lunch Group, the Monday Night Football Group where no football was watched, and his Thursday Night Poker Club. Maybe now the other members of the Poker Club will leave poker night with a few dollars left in their pockets.

Dave was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and served on the Church Finance Committee and as the Treasurer for the Church for many years.  He also served many years as  the Treasurer of the Blakeley Homeowner’s Association.  His frugality at home transferred to the communities he served, allowing them to not only enjoy the best quality for the best price, but also to build a legacy of financial soundness that would outlive his service.

Dave never met a stranger and was quick to make a new friend.  He had many hobbies and loved to include his family and friends in those hobbies.  He loved to garden, (no one could grow a better tomato than Dave!), fish, cook, and hang out with his buddies and family at his river cabin.  He immensely enjoyed teasing his friends and family, and was quite the prankster, even to the end.  He passed on his love of dogs to his children and was looking forward to being reunited with all of his family which included his dogs.

The family will celebrate his life at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2024 with a service at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Rock Hill, S.C. and a reception to follow at the Church Fellowship Hall.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Dave be remembered by a contribution to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Rock Hill, South Carolina, Hospice & Community Care of Rock Hill, S.C. or the charity of your choice.
