Dolores Whitton Brownley, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on December 29, 2024, surrounded by her devoted family. Dolores, a true “New Year’s baby,” was born on January 1, 1930, in Fort Mill, SC to Sarah Harris and Leyburn Brockwell.
In 1948, she married J. Hubert Whitton, Jr. Together they built a life filled with love in Rock Hill, SC, creating beautiful memories while raising their three daughters. Their strong partnership was the foundation of their joy and togetherness, until his passing in 1985.
Dolores’ gift of making every occasion memorable extended to the joy of 50s and 60s dances and her hosting family and friendgatherings. Her youth and friendly spirit often led to her being asked to chaperone teenage trips, a role she took on with joy.
A faithful member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Dolores was a member of the Pindarian Book Club and a dedicated volunteer at York General and Piedmont Hospital, where she was recognized by the Pink Ladies for her many hours of service. She enjoyed her time in various bridge clubs, claiming to have the worst cards but never losing her sense of humor.
In 1994, Dolores married Dr. Floyd (Mike) Brownley. They shared a love for traveling the world and experiencing moments that enriched their lives.
Dolores’ life was a beautiful testament to her deep love for her family and her immense pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, her unwavering support of those she adored, and her compassion, grace, and dignity. The legacy of love she leaves behind will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Dolores is survived by her children, Elaine Whitton Davis (Eric), Suzanne Corcoran (Jim), and Nancy Babington; her grandchildren, Dr. Bradley Amerson (Alyson), Kevin Amerson (Emily), Wendy Amerson (Amelia); and her great-grandchildren, Judah and Ophelia Amerson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her grandson, David Whitton Inman, her brother, Lt. Col. Leyburn Watts Brockwell, and the dear friends she held close to her heart.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the St. Johns Methodist Church in Rock Hill, SC.
