Rock Hill, SC – Dora Hutcheson Bowman, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on June 30, 2026.
Raised in Rock Hill, Dora was the daughter of the late Jack R. Hutcheson and the late Lillian Dunlap Hutcheson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Bowman and her sister, Wills Shores.
Before starting her family, Dora was a teacher at Independence Elementary School. Her higher calling became her role as a wife and a mother to her 2 children. Dora was a longtime member of the Rock Hill Debutante Club. Etiquette and manners were a priority for her, defining what it meant to be a true southern lady. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill. As her friends and family know, she loved Elvis.
Dora is survived by her son, Jamie Bowman (Virginia); her daughter, Dede Bowman (James); her grandson, Chip Bowman; and her brother, Robert Hutcheson. She also adored her caregiver, Twaneka Jamison who took such wonderful care of her.

At her request, Dora wanted no fanfare. Her family thanks everyone for their kind words and prayers during this difficult time. In Dora’s words, her life could be summed up in this one sentence: “I lived and I died.”
