Landrum, SC – Mrs. Douglas Abernethy Hollingsworth, 84, of Rock Hill, SC, passed away Sunday March 5th, 2023 at Agape Hospice House of Landrum.  A service will be held at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill, SC 29730 at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 10, led by Reverend Dr. Jeff Bryan, Reverend Sally Herlong, and Mr. Carter Rief. The burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery.

Douglas Hollingsworth, a native of Rock Hill, SC, was the daughter of the late Lonnie Franklin and Martha Hobbs Abernethy.  She was a 1957 graduate of Winthrop Training School, attended Salem College, and graduated with a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from Winthrop College.

Douglas was a mother of four, a History Teacher and Assistant Headmaster at Catawba School in Rock Hill, and later taught at York Technical College, Winthrop College, Orangeburg Technical College and Pace Academy in Atlanta, Georgia.  She was a member of Oakland Presbyterian Church of Rock Hill as a child, and she was married there, plus a Sunday school teacher there as an adult. After she moved away, she continued to attend Oakland Presbyterian Church for weddings and baptisms as well as her husband’s funeral.

Douglas is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Barker Hollingsworth, her sister, Ruth Hobbs Evans, and brother-in-law, John Marshall Evans.

Douglas is survived by her children, Martha Hollingsworth Thompson and her husband James P. Thompson, Thomas Barker Hollingsworth Jr. and his wife Susan, Ruth Hollingsworth and her wife Dell, and Jonathan Croft Hollingsworth and his wife Melissa; her grandchildren, Ruth Abernethy Plumridge (Jeff), Jon Croft Hollingsworth Jr., James Patrick Thompson Jr., Evans Kathleen Hollingsworth, Grace Hollingsworth Rief (Carter), Thomas Barker Hollingsworth III, Drayson Youngblood, and Cody Clark Mannino (Josh) as well as great grandchildren, Ella and Adelyn Plumridge and Clark and Joni Mannino and many cherished nieces and nephews.
