Douglas John Subjeck, 61, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at his home in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Mr. Douglas John Subjeck was born on June 9, 1964, to Ronald Subjeck and the late Shirley Schmidt Subjeck in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up in what is now referred to as “Eastpoint”, Mr. Subjeck attended East Detroit High School and graduated in 1982. Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1988 to 1996. In his work life, Mr. Subjeck had a successful career as an engineer in building automations. As a knowledgeable and educated man, he worked in the software industry for nearly 30 years. However, to Mr. Subjeck, his family was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed spending time camping in the mountains and many of nights by the campfire. He’s described as being the best curmudgeon he could be and was affectionately called “Grumpa.”
Mr. Subjeck is survived by his loving wife of nearly 38 years, Elizabeth Seales Subjeck; his daughters, Carrie Amodei (Christopher) and Rebecca “Becky” Smyth (Sean); his father, Ronald Subjeck; his granddaughter, Emily Grace Amodei and Olivia Paige Amodei; his sister, Cindy Subjeck; his mother’s husband, Utz Schmidt; his best friend, Gary Jennings; and his two dogs, Lucy and Moose.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Schmidt Subjeck.
