Rock Hill, South Carolina – Dr. Michael D. Bolus (Mickey), age 89, passed away peacefully on July 15th, 2026 at Atrium Health Pineville, NC, from complications related to cardiovascular disease.

Born in Omaha, Nebraska to William Jack Bolus and Pauline Murial (nee Tucker) Bolus, he grew up in Johnson City, Tennessee.  He graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1959 and later earned his Doctor of Divinity degree at Rice University.  He went on to serve Christ as a Minister of God’s Word in the Presbyterian Church (PCA) for over fifty-five years, of which he was one of the founding fathers.

He served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the Army of the United States and was honorably discharged from duty in 1963.

To those who knew him, he was a simple man.  His Faith, his Family, and his Calling to Minister to many were his passions.  Preaching God’s Word was his most noble of gifts and truest earthbound purpose, for which his family is forever grateful and indebted.

In addition to this, he was a devoted husband of 65 years to his wife, Elizabeth Eleanor (nee Swartwout) Bolus and a patient, loving father to his children and grandchildren.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Bolus; his children, Michael David Bolus, Jr. (David) and spouse Kirk A. Imhof, and Elizabeth (Beth)Ruth Bolus; his grandchildren, Timothy Luke Bolus and his wife Ashly Bolus, and Elizabeth Ashley Bolus, who knew him affectionately as “Papa”; his great grandchildren, Hadley Bolus and Easton Bolus; his brother-in-law, John Swartwout, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bolus and Pauline Bolus and his brothers William (Bill) Bolus, John Bolus and Frank (Jack) Bolus.

They are all together, forever in the presence of God their Savior, surrounded by all the Saints in Glory!

A graveside service will be held at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 490 Neely’s Creek Road, Rock Hill, SC on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service and celebration of life at Hopewell Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to “Engaging Disability With the Gospel” at engagingdisability.org, an organization close to his heart.
