Dr. Robert Earl Penny, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the dental community, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on November 25, 1946, in Rockford, Illinois, Bob, as he was affectionately known, touched the lives of many with his kindness, wit, and unwavering dedication to his family and profession.

Bob’s academic journey began at the University of South Florida, where he laid the groundwork for a future filled with service and care. He later attended the University of Kentucky, where he completed dental school, specializing in periodontics. His expertise allowed him to practice periodontics in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and the surrounding area for over three decades, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and patients alike.

His professional accomplishments were matched only by his devotion to his family. Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia Penny; his three loving children, Robert Penny, Jr., and his wife, Holly, who together raised two wonderful grandchildren, Walker and Collins Penny, in Irmo, SC; Beth Parker and her husband, Zach, who have two children, Will and Lauren Parker, residing in Pooler, GA; and Robin Penny, who resides in Holyoke, MA. Bob’s family was his pride and joy, and he often spoke of his grandchildren with love and admiration.

The son of Delmar David Penny and Anna Margaret Detling Penny, Bob was blessed with a close-knit family and carried the values instilled in him by his parents throughout his life. Though he is preceded in death by them, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be remembered by those he loved.

Bob was known not only for his professional skills but also for his unique ability to light up a room with his humor. He had a remarkable talent for creating clever parodies of songs, effortlessly crafting lyrics that brought smiles and laughter to those around him. His memory was sharp, allowing him to recount jokes and stories with a flair that captivated audiences, no matter how many times he told them.

An avid shooter, Bob enjoyed participating in competitive target shooting matches, often traveling to the annual event in Camp Perry, Ohio. His adventurous spirit was further reflected in his love for travel, where he sought to explore the world and create memories with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and a zest for life that was infectious, and his passion for his dogs revealed his gentle and caring nature.

In his passing, Dr. Robert Earl Penny leaves behind a family and community who will forever cherish his memory. His love, laughter, and stories will continue to resonate in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we grieve the loss of this remarkable man, we also celebrate the incredible legacy he leaves behind—a legacy defined by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to those he cared for deeply.
