Rock Hill, SC – Erline L. Henderson, “Mawmaw”, 92, passed away on July 28, 2025 at home. She was born in Madison County, NC, on May 6, 1933, to the late Earl Ray and the late Minta Hensley. Erline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Amos Henderson Jr.; her siblings, Raymond Landers, Lawrence Hensley, James Hensley, Amos Laxton, Aline Clemmer, Dot, Mary, and Martha; her aunt, Roxie; and one grandchild, Jason Henderson.
She is survived by her sons, David Henderson (Joyce), Jerome Henderson (Cheryl), and Larry Amos Henderson; her daughters, Patsy Capps (Donald, deceased) and Julie Cornwell (Eugene); her sister, Betty Burleson; and her grandchildren, Jennifer Capps, Amanda Combs (Jacob), Kelly Patterson (Phillip), Clay Henderson (Taylor), Deanna Johnson (David), Gene Cornwell, Kami Henderson, Dillon Henderson (Cynthia), Katie Henderson, and Jason’s wife, Heather Henderson, numerous great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Most famously known as “Mawmaw” to many, Erline spent many years loving on and feeding anyone’s young-ins while parents were working at her in home daycare. After the kids left on Fridays, Erline liked to get dressed up and spend her weekends at the dance, where she taught herself Rocky Top in her 60’s while watching others on the dance floor, moving her feet along under the table. If you couldn’t find her at the dance, she was spending her time with friends at the Red Barn auction, number 9 as her paddle number. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, and there was no one who cooked like mawmaw! Mawmaw was so proud of all her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments in life, and would brag to anyone about them, even if they didn’t know it. What a legacy she leaves behind.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732, with Pastor Buddy Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM, and other times at Mrs. Henderson’s home. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.
